Peter the Pelican and Look Before You Leap is a fact based fiction story about a pelican and his seven year relationship with Pop. The plot is based upon real life adventures and experiences between this wild bird and the man who befriended him.

The book includes two pages of interesting facts about the brown pelican. Following the fact pages are two additional pages that promote listening skills through a set of comprehension questions about the story and fact pages. The story holds the interest level of kindergarteners through third graders.

The contents of Peter the Pelican meet classroom requirements for the Georgia Performance Standards and the Florida Sunshine State Standards in reading, writing, science, social studies, and math. Even for the smaller children who don’t yet read, the detailed illustrations will capture their attention.
